Gypsum
Gypsum is a natural source of calcium and sulfur, vital minerals for improving soil structure and promoting healthy plant growth. It helps prevent soil compaction, increases aeration, and enhances nutrient uptake without affecting soil pH. For cannabis cultivation, mushroom substrates, and buffering coconut coir, gypsum plays a crucial role in providing balanced nutrition and improving the growing medium.

Cannabis Cultivation
In cannabis grows, gypsum supplies calcium and sulfur, essential for cell structure, enzyme function, and overall plant health. It helps prevent nutrient deficiencies, strengthens stems, and boosts bud development. Gypsum also improves soil texture, allowing roots to grow more freely and access nutrients more efficiently.

  • Application: Mix 1-2 tablespoons (10-15 grams) of gypsum per gallon (about 4 liters) of soil for outdoor grows or 1 tablespoon (5 grams) per 1 liter of water for indoor container plants.

Mushroom Substrates
Gypsum is commonly added to mushroom substrates, such as straw or compost, to balance pH and provide a consistent source of calcium and sulfur. This helps fungi grow more vigorously, resulting in higher-quality fruiting bodies and improved yields.

  • Application: Add 2-5% gypsum by weight to the total substrate mixture. For example, if you’re using 10 kg of substrate, mix in 200-500 grams of gypsum.

Buffering Coconut Coir
Gypsum is also effective in buffering coco coir by adding calcium and improving its cation exchange capacity. This process helps neutralize excess sodium and potassium levels and allows the coir to retain more essential nutrients for plant health.

  • Application: When hydrating a 5 kg coir block, mix in 50-100 grams of gypsum per block, ensuring even distribution for effective buffering.
